Neil grew up on Natal’s south coast from the age of 18 months but started his journalistic and commentary career in the UK in 1987 having returned to the country of his birth because of SA’s sporting isolation
When word reached him that an end to isolation and a return to international sporting competition was imminent, he returned to lay the foundations for an independent sports news agency – what would become MWP Media.
Since then he has covered over 50 tours with the national cricket team as well as becoming an established commentator and columnist with a variety of media outlets in the country.
Apart from an ability to think on his feet and provide astute, critical analysis when required, it is his sense of humour in reporting on sport that has set him aside from many contemporaries.
He has also written a number of books including Bouch – Through my eyes, Graeme Smith’s Captain’ Diary 2007-2009, Gary Kirstens biography, Gazza, and collaborated with Paddy Upton on The Beer Drinkers Guide to Losing weight.
